Holiday Apron Tutorial

Hello Everyone! Hope you have gotten a head start on your Christmas Crafting and Holiday Decorating!
Here is a project I saw in a catalog and thought I could share my version of it with you!

HOLIDAY APRON (Recipe Card Holder) perfect for hostess gifts, cookie swaps, or to hang on your fridge! ^_^

What you will need (Supplies):
2 sheets 8.5 x 11 red cardstock I full sheet/ 2nd sheet cut into a horizontal 4.5" strip (for pocket).
1 sheet white cardstock cut 1.5" horizontal strip (for trim). White shape to frame your stamp image (top front of apron). And apron template.
Ribbon cut to your peference for side hang and neckline of apron.
Your favorite stamp image (Two Scoops of course, wink wink).
Hole Punch
Glue/ Craft Tape
Scissors
Embellishments
*Optional Brads (to reinforce holes)

Step 1:

Stamp Image on Cardstock or your favorite Paper, Color with favorite Markers (I used Copics for this tutorial), and cut image out. Set aside for assembly.

Step 2:

Using your piece of while cardstock draw a template with marker to create your apron silhouette. cut out template. At this time, you can cut a 1.5" horizontal strip and use paper edgers to create a trim for your apron pocket. I also used the rest of the card stock to make several shapes that framed my stamped image, to go on the top front of the apron. Play with different shapes for different looks, you can always save the other shapes for other projects!

Step 3:

Trace your template on the red cardstock to create your apron silhouette.

Step 4:

Cut out your traced lines to form the apron!

Step 5:

Mark your holes to punch, this is where you will be inserting your ribbon.

Step 6:

After you have punched the holes *(Optional) use brads to reinforce your holes. I used Cropadile (brad tool) for this project.

Step 7:

Using the white 1.5" strip and red 4.5" strip, let's create the apron's pocket. For this project I used Fiskar's paper edger to create this lace look... You can go crazy and use up all your scrap printed paper, ribbons, stickers, glitter, and bling for embellishing your project!

Apply glue or craft tape to back of white 1.5" strip and affix to the top of the red 4.5" strip, make sure they line up at the top... You don't have to be perfect, as I lined the top of the pocket with a red velvety ribbon to hide any imperfections.

Step 8:

Glue or tape the sides and bottom of your apron's pocket, REMEMBER to leave the top unglued or untaped so you can stick your recipe cards in your pocket!!!

Step 9:

String your ribbon through the holes of your apron and tie into a simple knot, TOP ribbon should connect to form the neckline of your apron, sides should hang free.
Step 10:

This is how your apron should look... Now, on to embellish it!!!

Step 11:

Affix your stamped image to white cardstock frame and embellish how you choose, I used red buttons to add a homemade feel to this project. Here is your chance to go happy and use all your bling and have fun embellishing your project!

Step 12:

Voila! Your project is done!!! All you have to do is add your recipe cards in the pocket!

I hope you had fun with this tutorial! You can cut up the shapes in advance and on your Thanksgiving gatherings, set aside a craft table for your family to gather and create this cute craft! You can ask them in advance to bring their favorite recipe on cards (depending how many projects you are planning on) and at the end of the project pass out all the different recipes to everyone, so you have a nice gift for everyone to take home!

This idea can be used for a hostess gift, cookie swaps, gift for the baker/cook, or to hang on YOUR fridge!

Other great ideas: Make this into a smaller scale and tie around a cookie jar with your homemade cookies, you can stick in the recipe for the cookies you made and personalize your gift! Change up the colors and make for other great holidays!!! Use your imagination and send us your project!!! We just might use it for our blog! I am excited to share with you more inspiration from the Design Team, today's sweet (in every word) project comes from the awesome Enjoli:

See what I mean? I think I just got a cavity from all the sweetness! Enjoli altered a thin tin holder with some yummy DP and used the perfect image for it called Cupcake Cat.

Here is the inside of the tin:

Perfect size for a mini pen and a post-it note pad, and look at that adorable calendar! I would stay so organized with one of these. ;) Thank you Enjoli for starting off our Friday with such a wonderful treat!

Operation Quiet Comfort

Greetings All!

I would like to take some time out and talk about a wonderful opportunity for all of the wonderfully talented blog readers out there that might be interested in sending in some of your creations to a heartfelt project to support our US Troops overseas.

Renee Stuck from Decatur, Illinois, has sent me a wonderful email telling me about Operation Quiet Comfort. Here is a excerpt from her email:

"I am a member of Operation Quiet Comfort. We supply things directly to our medics/nurses/doctors/etc that takes care of our Wounded Warriors wounded on the front lines. Part of what we send are thinking of you, thank you for your service, and cards at the holidays. I am currently a card maker for this organization and I am making cards on index cards and just hand writing "thank you" or what ever the message may be on the index cards. I would love to make these index cards nicer looking for our Wounded Warriors that are injured and sick while fighting in the war so many miles away from friends and family.

I would also like to start making cards for our deployed troops to send back home to their families! They don't have the luxury of going to the store and buying them like we do!"

So, please join me and send in some of your extra cards to help this cause!

Troops need cards to send to love ones not only for the Holidays, but birthdays, thank you's, thinking of you, missing you, etc...

Two Scoops Rice Designs is looking for a New Design Team!

Selection process will begin October 1 - 25

Design Team will be announced on November 1st

Qualifications:

1) Please submit at least 3 design samples (not only limited to card making) or links of your works.

2) If submitting a resume, please include a list of publications you have been in and or past design team experience, blog address, and any other groups you belong to (ie. paper craft planet, facebook, splitcoast stampers, etc...).

3) Must be willing to commit for a 6 month period of weekly samples for TSRD blog and or other promotions. This is a non-exclusive contract, meaning you may design for other companies!

If selected your contract date will commence November 1st and end on April 30, 2010. A Detailed email will be sent upon selection.

As promised, more samples, this time using the Two Scoops Rice Designs 2009 Halloween Set.
Images are digital and comes in a set of 14 images for $12.00 USD. What a deal!!! You can resize the images to fit whatever project you are working on. I like to print out on cardstock and color (using copic pens). However, you can use your imagination and create just about anything using these images for your SPOOKY projects!

Smore Kit includes: 16 graham cracker squares, 8 marshmallows, 8 Hershey's chocolate (mini bars).

Clear Holiday Ornament. Made by cutting clear acetate about 1/2 in. smaller than circumference of the ornament, stick image on acetate, roll acetate/image to fit into the opening of the bulb (on top) and secure the image in the bulb, you can use a tweezer to get the right placement of image.

I am finally shipping out the original Pre Orders that were placed last November, can you believe the trials that have finally brought us to this point? I am so excited for you to get your first stamps from Two Scoops Rice Designs. If you have ordered in November, you would have received an email to respond and PayPal invoice sent to you, if you have not, please contact me if you still wish to purchase your original order. The Garden Fairies Come Out to Play...

Fairies have been buzzing around and giving TLC to the lovely flower garden! These are the latest peek-a-boo/ sneak peek of our Garden Fairies Line! The TSRD Design Team were given these images to start making lots of adorable samples for you to get INSPIRED!!!

Hello, I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday! Things have been hectic here at Two Scoops Rice Designs, a few set backs in delayed product has pushed things a little behind, but good news!!! For those of you who pre-ordered, I hope to get your invoices out to you by this weekend and shipping them out to you all next week! :)

TSRD website will be up and running sometime in December and I am prepping the artwork for the release of many new designs to come your way in January and throughout 2009!

Sneak Peek Kawaii Kokeshi Dolls

Hello and Happy Sunday to all of you! Pre-Sale is almost over and those of you who want to ensure your holiday orders please place them as soon as possible! In addition to prepping your orders, I have been working on a ton of new images and couldn't wait to show you the "Kokeshi Doll Line." Kokeshi dolls are traditional Japanese folkart dolls handcrafted out of wood and painted, they have been around for over a 150 years. My designs are modern versions that are given a Kawaii-look. Keep on the look-out during 2009 for my seasonal releases of these dollies, each season will feature 5 or more Kokeshi dolls to represent Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. These images will sell as single images (aprox. 3" x 3") and retail for about $6.00 each.

Sweets Set... This is inspired by my trip to Japan in 2007... while visiting Japan, I encountered numerous Panya shops (pronounced Pahn-yah), Panya is a Japanese Bakery. Rows and rows of pastries, rolls, cookies, cakes, and puddings... it was definately sensory OVERLOAD!

This set includes a Petite Strawberry Shortcake, Cute Cream Puff, a piece of Strawberry Cake, Slice of Lemon Meringue Pie, Creme Brulee, and a Scrumptious Parfait!

Mushies and Nature Sets!!!

Welcome! Thanks for stopping by... here's a couple more sets for you to sneak-a-peek!!! Nature Set comes with Ms. Lady Bug, a flower, smiley apple, apple n seeds, a mini mushie and a tiny leaf, 4 micro mini stamps are included with this set (for those of you who want to decorate your plain cardstock!). Samples I made using these images are a card (6x6") and matching gift tag (using a sizzix die cut).

Mushie (Mushroom) Set includes 4 whimsical mushsies (inspired by Japanese Kawaii and popular video games) 2 with smiling faces, 2 with no expression (very Japanese). Samples are also a card (6 x6") and matching gift tag (using a sizzix die cut). Grass on the card was used with left over paper cut into strips.

Lastly, I would like to announce that I had made a decision for the addition of 2 more DT members (making my team a dozen!)

Rise and Shine! Hello again, here is Two Scoops Rice Designs' Breakfast Set. Set is aprox. 4-1/2 x 2-1/2" comes with a piece of toast, a bowl of cereal, stack of pancakes, a bacon , an egg, and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice! Yum! What a perfect way to start your crafting day!

Eat Your Fruits and Veggies...

Sneak Peek of Fruits and Veggies Sets!

Things have been sprouting in the TSRD garden! Who said yummy treats are not in the form of fruits and veggies?

Sets sold separately aprox. 4-1/2 x 2-1/2".

Fruit set includes a pineapple, cherries, apple, orange, strawberry and watermelon... sayings include: "you are berry sweet, " "Apple of my Eye," and "friends are the "fruit" of happiness."

Veggie Set includes a tomato, eggplant, green pepper, pea pod, and a carrot. Sayings include: "Hope you're Happy and Healthy," "Two Peas in a Pod," "A friendship grows," "Friends," "Peas and Carrots," and "Eat Your Veggies."

This is a cute gift box I got at the dollar store,it came in a pack of 2 boxes! I simply punched out some circles to create a matching gift tag and used the coordinating circles to frame the repeating apple images to embellish the box.

This is a tiny gift bag I found at Target in the dollar section! It too, came in a set of 2 bags (50 cents each). It was easy to coordinate some embellishment paper on the front and circle cut to tie it all in on the gift tag! I used the peas and carrot design to embellish this project, perfect for a RAK for "BFF like Peas -n- Carrots..."

Finally this cute card I threw together some die cuts and used clear sticker tiles and a couple of rhinestones to make this project POP! Cute little pineapple was a perfect choice... I think this would be a cute hostess card or for my friends in Hawaii, would be an all occassion kinda card!

I Love Sushi!

Hello, Hello! Thanks for stopping by! Here is the latest on the Menu for Two Scoops Rice Designs Rubber Stamp Mini Sets... called "I Love Sushi!"

Mini Set is aprox. 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 ".

Set includes Maguro (fish), Ebi (shrimp), Tamago (egg), Tako (octopus) , Maki and Maki Wink. Phrases: "I Love Sushi," Irashaimasen (welcome), and Sushi (in 2 different fonts).

I used pre-made cards that I bought from Target ( I always scour the clearance section!). Using these stamp images it was simple and easy, so those of you in a time crunch and need a craft "fix" there are ways to cut corners and come out with a "handmade look."

Happy World Card Making Day!

Happy World Card Making Day! To kick off this special day for all you paper artists and crafters here is a preview of Two Scoops Rice Designs' Donut Set!

I had fun coloring up all these donut cuties and assembling them into this adorable blank card... I used the same frosted donut image and colored them into strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla donuts to adorn the front of the card and used the plain donut image for the indside.

Images will be available in a set aprox. 4-1/2" x 2-1/2"

Phrases: "Life is Sweet!" and "SUGAR."

Sweet Tooth Set

Going to the dentist isn't always fun, but taking care of your teeth is so important, because it enables you to eat all the wonderful foods that we all enjoy to eat!

In this preview: Cute Tooth, Owie Tooth (with a cavity), Tooth Fairy, some toothpaste, floss, and a toothbrush complete this set. Sayings include: "Sweet Tooth" and "you don't have to brush all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep."

Card ideas are for a little guy or girl that lost their first tooth, for your favorite dentist, hygenist, dental office worker, or even to incorporate with other TSRD food stamps to create a SWEET TOOTH lover card! A great idea is for halloween parties, instead of giving candies you can give out little tubes of tooth paste and tooth brushes and use these images to make tags or embellish little gift bags in halloween colors to encourage kids to brush their teeth after eating all the halloween candy! More ideas to come as we gather more designers for our stamp line!

Good Friends Stick Together Mini Stamp Set (4.5 x 2 3/4)

Here is another sneak peek at whats in store for Two Scoops Rice Designs Stamp Line Debut!

I put together this card as an example of how to use these cute little mini stamps. Dimensions of the little musubis/onigiris are about the size of a US dime. Set includes phrases: "Good Friends Stick Together", "A Good Family Sticks Together", and "rice is nice but you're the best!"

I am also excited to announce Jenn Muraoka of Kiyomi Krafts as my official design team leader!

Stamp Sets Are Coming!

Hello! I have been working hard designing the Two Scoops Rice Designs Stamp Line. Stamps will be clear stamps and sold individually and in mini sets.

Here are a few peeks at what our mini stamp sets will look like as well as a sample of how it looks colored and assembled.

Mini Stamp Sets will be 2-3/4 " x 4- 1/2 " unmounted and ready for your clear acrylic stamp mount.

The samples above were created on cardstock and cut individually and mounted on Sizzix dies.

Kakimochi and Popcorn set was created to embellish a card to incorporate movie tickets, a movie theater gift card, or a RAK for a BFF! Other ideas are for a gift giving are a gift bag stuffed with microwave popcorn, popcorn seasonings, a favorite DVD, and a bottle of your favorite soda. Perfect for someone who "has it all."

Dim Sum set is perfect for a "Thank You" card or to say "Hello" and a invite for a dim sum brunch or lunch! Another cute idea is to swing by a local Manapua Shop to pick up random delicacies and deliver it with your special handmade card!

The ideas are endless and will look forward to building a team of designers to bring you super cute and easy ideas to make you stand out of the crowd!

Maki Sushi Greeting Cards

The new designs are coming along and I hope these sneak peeks are inspiring you to try your hand at making some super cute creations using Two Scoops Rice Designs images! Here is yet another sample of a card idea. I used the Two Scoops Rice Design Maki Sushi image to create both greeting cards (image size c1"x1"and 2"x2" ). Marvy Craft Punches for the circle and square backdrop were cut from red and black card stock and mounted using Vario double-sided adhesives. Dots on card #2 was embossed using Cuttlebug Swiss Dots. Ribbon and stick on jewels finished the embellishments. Enjoy! ~Renae :)

Smiling Saimin Gift Tag

Been working on some paper craft samples for our new line of Stamps debut. This is a sample of a gift tag, using our Smiling Saimin design and Sizzix Scallop Tag (Bigz) die. Paper was also embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing Folder. White tag paper was also used and punched with the Martha Stewart Doiley Lace Edge Punch.

It has been fun in my tiny studio, from drawing the sketches to adding the finishing touches to sample designs, I can't wait to see what the wonderful and talented artists and crafters will create using my stamp designs! Stay tuned... ~R

Musubi & Me

I recently made a pair of cute musubi earrings for a friend of mine. Being that we are both living on the mainland, I wanted to add a Hawaii-flare to personalize my gift. I recently made a bunch of hawaii-style designs for my clip art and t-shirt designs.

I used a handle box template to create a simple package and embellished it with some scrap designer paper, a little silk flower, ribbon, and a cut out of my clip art.

It came out to be so sweet and my friend loved it!

For future use I printed out more clip art and printed out box templates in different colors... when I have the free time I assemble them together (you can also cut paper in the same color schemes to make gift tags and cards) and store them with my gift wraps and tissues, a very quick way to personalize your gifts!
